Hello and welcome to my blog!

DG41 / DG9 (EXECUTOR)

SEPTEMBER 2026 - SEPTEMBER 2031

[YEAR 1 - YEAR 5]

Phase 1: Establishing a Strong Foundation on my Probation Years

Stage: Novice Teacher - DG41 / DG9 [Executor]

Finding my rhythm as a Novice Teacher

As a novice teacher (DG41) and having the responsibility of being an executor at school, I am committed to embracing all challenges and responsibilities given to me. These experiences are valuable opportunities for growth and learning. Although the early years of teaching may be challenging, I believe they are crucial for building a strong foundation in my career. I aim to apply the knowledge and experience I gained during my five years as a trainee teacher at the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG).

Building Core Teaching Skills

For the first three years, I planned to build a strong foundation in my teaching career by gaining teaching experience in the new school that I got posted to. To have a strong foundation and build my teaching strategies, I will try to adapt all the theories that I have learned during my trainee teacher years in IPG, as well as my experience that I gained during my practicum and adapt it to the SKPMG standard, specifically the standard 4, which emphasises on the Pembelajaran dan Pemudahcara (PdPc). I will try to dive deep into SKPMg2, and understand the framework and its implications for my daily teaching. Apart from the SKPMg2, I plan to understand my roles and responsibilities better as a teacher by referring to the Standard Guru Malaysia (SGM) 2.0 that highlights four responsibilities that should be upheld by teachers, namely responsibility towards profession, the pupils, parents and also the community and country. By understanding the teacher’s roles that have been set, I should be able to improve my teaching practice, as I can utilise it as a guidance that I can follow to keep my teaching practice on track and effective. I can recognise the responsibility that I hold as a teacher, as well as the actions that I can follow in order to ensure the pupils’ development in school (kemenjadian murid). As a result, I believe that I will be able to be a teacher that always strives the best for my pupils, contributing to the community and the country, as well as improving my own values and dedication to the teaching profession. Through this practice as well, I can learn a lot about classroom management, teaching strategies, and professional ethics that should be possessed by a teacher. I also want to experiment with all the teaching strategies, teaching materials and interventions that I can use on my pupils in school, so that I can figure out which strategies suit my pupils the best. Not only as a guidance, I will also use the SKPMg2 as an evaluation tool to evaluate myself, so that I can detect the strengths and weaknesses in my teaching practices as well as be aware of the quality of my teaching performance in school for my pupils.

I will keep recording my progress in my own reflective teaching journal daily consistently. After every lesson, I will take time to reflect on what went well and what could be improved, aligning my reflections with the SKPMg standards. By acknowledging my strengths and weaknesses in teaching, I will be able to learn from my mistakes and make improvements. I also plan to collect feedback from the pupils and my colleagues about my teaching practices, so that I can know about the pupils’ learning preferences and their opinion about my teaching, as well as their opinion on my teaching style in the class. By doing so, I will be able to learn to adjust my teaching to cater the needs of the students and I will be able to get to know them better, giving me a chance to create a good learning environment for the pupils in the classroom.

Active Participation and Build Communication Skills

During these three years, I also plan to build a positive relationship with the school community, especially with the teachers as they will be my colleagues who I believe will help me a lot during my probation years. I will start by seeking a senior teacher, most likely the Head of the English Panel to be my mentor teacher and establish a regular mentoring relationship with him or her, to improve my teaching practices. I plan to actively try out the suggestions that I receive from mentors and observations. Other than that, I will seek advice and learn a lot of new things from the other English senior teachers, especially on the assessment strategies that are used by the teachers in order to assess the pupils' performance for the English subject.. This is because during my practicum, I struggled a lot with the Classroom Based Assessment, given the fact that I was still struggling in discovering the best way to plan my lessons to suit the pupils’ different learning styles, yet how to assess them in the class. Therefore, by having discussions, exchanging strategies, and observing their teaching methods in school, I believe that I can learn a lot, and try and error all the suggestions and strategies that I have learned from them based on their experiences. Other than that, I plan on learning about all the systems that used by teachers as a Pegawai Perkhidmatan Pendidikan (PPP) in school such as Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS), e-Operasi, e-Pangkat, and others for the other teachers, so that I will be able to follow and understand how the system works better.

I also determined that I want to learn and actively join the English panel in handling programmes or events in school, especially programmes that are related to the English subject such as Highly Immersive Programmes (HIP), debate competitions, public speaking, storytelling, English Week and other programmes. Not only events hold by the English Panel, I will try my best as well to be actively engaged and contribute myself in the school events such as being an emcee, organising the Parents-Teacher-Association (PIBG) meetings, and other events in the school, so that I can gain a lot of experience and communicate with a lot of parties in school, strengthening my bonds with the school community, including the other teachers who teach other subjects. I believe that through participation in various activities, I will be able to find the opportunities to widen my communication skills, which help me to adjust myself in the school environment better. Participating in many events in school in the early years also will help me a lot in understanding the school culture and their way of working when handling any events or programmes.

Participating in CPD programmes

During the first three years of my teaching career, I plan to participate in few CPD programmes that will help me in developing my professionality in this career. Firstly, I planned to register myself in the Sistem Pengurusan Latihan Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (SPLKPM), an online system that developed by the MOE that helps to record and manage all the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities of educators in Malaysia. Once I’m in the service, I want to use this system as early as I can, so that I will be aware of all the courses or training that are organised by the MOE, Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri (JPN) or the Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah (PPD). Since I was aiming to be an Excellent Teacher in the future, I think the SPLKPM is really important, since it can function as my official logbook that can document all the activities and CPD programmes that I have been involved in. Therefore, I will start to record my own CPD activities with the Program Transformasi Minda (PTM), which I believe that I will join during the last year of my teacher training programme in IPG. Next, in the first year, I am planning to join basic CPD programmes, such as Latihan Dalam Perkhidmatan (LADAP) in school, and attend other introductory workshops on topics like classroom management, differentiated instruction, or using basic educational technology. Moving forward, I planned to try my best in joining all the MOE, JPN or PPD courses that are related to TESL, or any courses that focuses on the utilisation of digital tools in classroom, more advanced 21st century skills strategies and others courses that will eventually help me improve and enhance my teaching skills, whether it is conducted physically or online. If there are any online courses that I find on my own that can help me in developing my career such as webinars held by Malaysian English Language Teaching Association (MELTA) or other organisers, I will not hesitate to join if I am free and it does not clash with my schedules. Then, I planned to join my school’s Professional Learning Community to collaborate with the senior teachers. On top of that, I will upgrade my career development by exploring workshops related to curriculum development, action research, or specific areas of English language teaching that related to the implementation of gamification to improve learning, as I am planning to involve myself in action research in years ahead as well as involve myself in any innovation competition in the future.

How are these efforts aligned with SGM 2.0?

Phase 2: Building Efforts towards Excellent Teacher

Stage: Competent - DG41 / DG9 [Executor]

Slowly Preparing towards Guru Cemerlang Qualification

Entering into the fourth year of teaching, I will start to focus on what I can implement in my class during teaching in order to improve the performance of the pupils. Other than that, as I manage to build a strong foundation during the first three years, I will use all the knowledge and experience gained to maintain a high standard in teaching by effectively teaching and applying the strategies and methodologies learned. Then, I want to start to focus on developing innovative teaching resources, building my leadership roles and preparing thoroughly to apply for the Excellent Teacher qualification.

Demonstrating Excellence and Initial Leadership

As I have already completed my probation years, for the next two years, I am determined to be a teacher who constantly demonstrates outstanding teaching by continuously reflecting on refinement of my practice based on the SKPMg2 standards, similar to what I have started during my probationary period. I will continue to record my daily reflective teaching journal, in order to track my growth in teaching. Other than that, instead of being just a little contributor in the English Language Panel like what I planned in the early years, I am planning to contribute more, by generating ideas for programmes or projects that can be held in the school in order to increase the pupils' motivation and interest in learning English. I also want to try leading any small projects or programmes in school, so that I can further develop my experience in handling programmes. For example, I am thinking of leading fun activities such as Treasure Hunt and Quiz via Kahoot! or Quizizz, considering that I have experience handling these types of activities during my trainee teacher years. I want to ensure that pupils are interested in learning the English language and make them feel like learning English is fun and not stressful at all. On top of that, I would like to actively share with the other English teachers in the school about useful resources that can be implemented in the classroom that function as a great facilitator in conducting the Teaching and Learning process. As I plan to join a lot of CPD programmes and webinars, I believe that I will gain a lot of insightful tips and knowledge about teaching and discover a lot of new materials that are useful for educators such as Canva Education and others. Therefore, I think I will share as much as possible the input that I get to the other teachers so that all of the teachers together can improve the pupils' performance in the school, increasing the school's reputation. Other than sharing about resources or materials that are already available, I want to challenge myself to create new and effective materials, as well as strategies in teaching that can help teachers, especially English teachers in improving their pupils' performance in school. As for now, I'm planning to create digital tools using various applications such as Canva, Quizizz and also Genially and try to implement it in my classroom and monitor the effectiveness of the new materials that I have created. Apart from developing innovative teaching resources, I am planning to develop my leadership skills, starting by offering guidance and support to new teachers coming to the school, even if they are not teaching the English subject. I want to slowly gain experience in leading, therefore I think this is a great opportunity to build my leadership skills.

Developing Leadership and Contribution

Entering the 5th year, I plan to start expanding my leadership skills and contribution within the school. First, I plan to seek formal leadership roles in school that I can hold, expressing my interest in possible positions such as any positions in the English Panel such as the secretary of The English Panel, Class Teacher, training the pupils for any competition or other possible roles. If any of these opportunities arise, I will definitely seize the opportunity and do my best in fulfilling and upholding my responsibilities of the roles given. By having many roles within the school, I can do more as a teacher, adding to my contributions that can be documented as evidence, strengthening the qualification for me to apply for the Excellent Teacher position. Even though I am planning to seize opportunities in holding these roles in school, I will never neglect my main responsibility, which is teaching my pupils effectively in the class. Instead, on the positive side, I think that upholding these kinds of roles in school will help me be more creative and innovative in implementing my Teaching and Learning session in the classroom, which will increase the students’ outcome (Kemenjadian Murid). Building on this, as I have already plan to do innovations and implement it in my classroom to enhance the pupils’ performance a year before, I plan to enhance my efforts in creating innovations, where I plan to pour my efforts in developing innovation, which is teaching materials that can help my pupils in improving their weakness in English language, be it within the language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), grammar, vocabulary or language structures. I want to ensure that the innovation will be a great help for the pupils and the teachers to overcome the pupils’ issues in learning English. For example, during my practicum, I have created an interactive online game, namely “Animal Race” using the Genially websites, where I found it very helpful in improving the pupils’ reading comprehension, increasing active participation and at the same time improving their vocabulary retention. Therefore, as I have experience in creating innovative teaching materials, I will ensure that during my fifth year, I will be able to implement my innovation successfully in the classroom and improve the pupils’ performance with its utilisation.

GC Portfolio Documentation

During the fifth year, I will start to systematically gather data that demonstrates the positive impact of my teaching on student learning, such as the pupils’ assessment results, the students’ feedback and the resources that I have created and shared with the other teachers. Next, I also will organise all my evidence of excellent teaching, leadership, and contributions in a well-structured portfolio. While preparing all that, I will ensure that I will be guided thoroughly by connecting myself with Guru Cemerlang in my school (if available) or the district to learn from their experiences and get advice on the application process. By the end of the fifth year, I will ensure that I have successfully prepared all the information that is needed, such as contributions that I have made to the school, innovations that I have created, my pupils’ achievement record and others in a portfolio. I will also ensure that I have met all the basic requirements for the qualification and get the approval from my school’s administrator, the headmaster before proceeding with the application that I will make in the next year. If there are any workshops regarding the portfolio writing and documentation for GC, I will definitely seize the opportunity and join it in order to strengthen my qualification when I apply for the Guru Cemerlang.
