Building Efforts towards Excellent Teacher DG48
Stage: Competent - DG48 / DG12 [Consultant and Mentor]
Application for the GC DG48 Qualification
In 2037, I will continue my career as a teacher, growing my career development, just like I have been doing for the past few years. Once the advertisement for application of Guru Cemerlang is posted by the MOE, I will submit my application, along with the GC application portfolio that I have been preparing at the end of the last year. By this year, I expected to be appointed as GC DG48.
Strive for the roles as official mentor and consultant
Appointed as the GC DG48, I plan to start expanding my leadership skills and contribution within the school. First, I plan to seek formal leadership roles in school that I can hold, expressing my interest in possible positions such as The Head of The Panel, Subject Coordinator or officially being a mentor for new teachers. This is due to the fact that, in this grade, teachers are in the competent stage, where they play a role as the consultant and the mentor (Rafidah et al., 2025). Therefore, to begin with, I plan to formally be the mentor of TESL teachers, especially the novice teachers, so that I will have the opportunity to help, guide and observe their progress in teaching. As I have attended many workshops on leadership skills and have experiences, I really want to share the best practices with new teachers in school, so that they will be able to teach effectively in the class. Next, I aim to become The Head of The English Panel, as I wish to be a mentor to the other TESL teachers as well, observing all the English panels progress, programmes and the pupils’ performance within the school. One of my goals when I become the Head of The English Panel is that I hope I can conduct a lot of programmes under the English panel, especially the HIP programme. I plan to actively and consistently collect and track data on HIP or other panel programmes, such as pre-post assessments, student engagement levels, and teacher feedback, since all of these data are useful for SKPMG and GC impact reports. After a few years, if I were given the opportunity, I also plan to become the subject coordinator in my school.
CPD activities to expand professionalism
As I am planning for bigger contributions and want to gain more knowledge as well as experience, I plan to attend a few advanced workshops that I have never attended before, such as the National Curriculum Updates, Educational Leadership and Mentoring workshops organised by the School Improvement Specialist Coaches (SISC+) and others. Other than joining workshops, I also plan to be a presenter in high-level conferences such as the district-level PLC or seminar, leading PLC by facilitating collaborative learning among teachers, and many other activities. I also aspire to write more articles or conduct research and publish them in professional journals like Jurnal Pendidikan Malaysia. I also hope that I will get the chance to present or share the studies that I have conducted or interventions that I have discovered from my research in a wider community, allowing other educators out there to adopt the strategies and try to implement it in their teaching and learning process. I also plan to hold my own workshop or seminar on guiding other teachers on how to apply to be an Excellent Teacher, most likely via online platforms such as YouTube and Facebook, like other Excellent Teachers have done. As someone who aspires to become a Guru Cemerlang, I found that the sharings, tips and webinars that have been conducted and shared by Guru Cemerlang around Malaysia help me a lot in preparing myself in becoming the Guru Cemerlang. The experiences that they have shared on blogs, Facebook, Telegram and also YouTube were really insightful and helpful. Therefore, I also hope that I can share all the tips and knowledge on how to prepare to be an Excellent Teacher and be a role model for them, so that they will be able to grow their potential as a teacher as well. I also want to update my educational websites, especially my Google Sites, by adding another specific section about my experience on pursuing the Excellent Teacher.

Holding the GC DG48 title, I am expected to upgrade my grade to GC DG52 after 4 years. I will still prepare my preparation and documentation for the GC application. If the MOE posts the advertisement for the GC application, and it is offered for DG52 grade, I will definitely apply for it.
