Maintaining strong SKPMG ratings and CPD participation
Stage: Strategic - DG54 / DG14 [Strategic Thinker]
Moving on to GC DG54 after completing another 4 years of excellent service, I’m entering the “Strategic Thinker” phase, the highest level in the teacher career pathway without entering administrative posts like Headmaster. While still holding the title as a GCDG54, my role becomes visionary: I’m shaping the future of education, influencing policy, and innovating for sustainable impact, especially at the state or national level.
While being consistent in educating my pupils and monitoring the other teachers, I aspire to use all the advanced skills and knowledge that I possess to contribute ideas and expertise to a higher level, especially in influencing the policy, as well as developing the curriculum by participating in the refinement of curriculum documents or the CEFR resource development. If I were given the chance, I also want to contribute to the textbook development and the CEFR revision process, as I wish to give my opinion and share ideas on the content that will help pupils in Malaysia become more motivated in learning English. I always have this aspiration on contextualising the English textbook for our pupils, but at the same time keeping it in accordance to the CEFR level. As for my mentorship responsibilities, I will keep developing my leadership skills by consistently evaluating the potential of the teachers under my supervision effectively. I will ensure that they will be able to join various CPD programmes that will enhance their potential in teaching and leading as well. Apart from teachers under my supervision, I also aspire to mentor other GC teachers both in my own respective school and other schools. Next, I also want to find opportunities to share innovative ideas at international conferences such as the IPGM, other universities and also international schools. I will keep on being an educational influencer by keeping my Google Sites and Telegram channel updated so that other teachers can keep learning, motivated and use them as guidance in developing their teaching career.
As a Guru Cemerlang in the DG 54 / DG 14 rank, I believe that I have a unique opportunity to lead by example and make a substantial impact on the educational community. To maximize my potential in this prestigious role, I am planning to put my focus on mentoring a select group of talented educators, helping them to refine their skills, share innovative teaching practices, and guide them through their career progression. I am also planning to take an active role in curriculum innovation and policy discussions at the national level, offering my expertise to shape the direction of English language teaching in Malaysia. Additionally, I aspire to collaborate with other experts in the field to create comprehensive training programs or workshops that target both teachers’ professional growth and the evolving needs of students. Therefore, while being in this rank, I'm planning to try my best and use all the opportunities that I have to keep developing myself and upgrade my quality as a teacher, by upholding my responsibility towards the profession, which is one of the domains in the SGM 2.0 framework. Even though I am nearing the completion of my service, it is not an excuse for me to stop growing or contributing to the field of education. I believe that by taking the initiative to lead research, share evidence-based strategies, and implement cutting-edge practices, I will be able to contribute not only to the advancement of my own colleagues but also to the broader educational landscape in Malaysia, ensuring that the nation's educational standards continue to thrive at a global level, before ending my service as a teacher.
