Building Efforts towards Excellent Teacher GC DG48
Stage: Inspire - DG44 / DG10 [Activator]
Apply for Excellent Teacher (Guru Cemerlang DG44)
In 2032, I will continue my career as a teacher, growing my career development, just like I have been doing for the past few years. Once the advertisement for application of Guru Cemerlang is posted by the MOE, I will submit my application, along with the GC application portfolio that I have been preparing at the end of the last year. By this year, I expected to be appointed as GC DG44.

Expanding my expertise
After being appointed to GC DG44, I will begin my plan in expanding my expertise, in order to prepare myself to move to the next stage, which is the GC DG48, which I targeted after completing 4 years of excellent service after the DG44 appointment. The teacher in this grade is supposed to be the activator, where they are responsible to contribute to the improvement of the teaching and learning quality in the school (Rafidah et al., 2025). To begin with, I plan to expand my previous classroom innovations by involving myself in innovation programmes such as competition, so that I can widen my knowledge and potential in creating. I believe that by expanding the previous innovations, I will be able to strengthen my teaching strategies, where I can have a better understanding on best teaching practices, the implementation of differentiated learning for each of the pupils, as well as the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) application in the classroom. As I plan to join the innovation programme, I believe I can learn a lot from the other competitors as well, and share all the insightful knowledge that I gain from every competition that I plan to join with the other teachers in school, improving the English subject performance in the school. Other than expanding my innovation, I also plan to begin an action research within my classroom, where I identify my pupils’ problem in learning English, and begin to explore the intervention that I could make in order to overcome the problem. The main focus of the research is to determine the best teaching methodologies that I can choose and apply in the classroom for identifying the pupils’ potential in learning English. After conducting research, I believe that I will have a lot of opportunities to share best practices through the TESL PLC communities, not only the teachers within my school, but other schools as well. As I have done innovations and research, I am planning to create an educational website for me to share everything related to the English subject, including the lesson plans, teaching materials, worksheets and digital tools, as well as share my experience in applying for the GC qualification, so that I can help other teachers as well. The platform that I plan to use for this educational website is Google Sites. On top of that, I also will create a Telegram channel to share all of the materials that I use, and link to my Google Sites.
Model Best Practices in Teaching
Upholding a role as an activator, I also plan to consistently model the best practices in teaching by applying innovative, student-centered strategies that align with CEFR, PBD, and 21st-century learning. I want to ensure that all of my sharing, including my experiences, teaching materials, research and innovations that I have been involved in are useful for teachers and students, especially in improving the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process. On top of that, I also will apply differentiated instructional strategies in my classroom, leverage more technology implementation in order to meet the needs of my pupils, as well as meeting the PAK-21 learning strategies. In addition, in this stage, I want to improve my knowledge, skills and strategies in assessing the pupils, in order to ensure that I will be able to track my pupils’ growth accordingly and I know what I should do to help them keep improving in learning. For example, I plan to attend more workshops that emphasises on the CBA, so that I can learn more about how to implement formative and summative assessments effectively in the classroom. Even though I already attended this type of workshop during my early years, I think I should always attend every time I have the opportunity because I can upgrade my knowledge, as well as I can know if there are any differences about the CBA implementation compared to the previous years. By doing all this, I am sure that I can be a good role model and visible example of excellence in teaching for other teachers, especially the other novice teachers. I believe that by portraying good examples in schools, it is easy for others to be motivated as well, and I really hope that each teacher, including the pupils, will do their best in whatever they are doing.
To expand my leadership skills, I plan to join a lot of workshops that not only will help me hone my leadership skills but also develop my career development in the teaching field, such as Educational Leadership and Mentoring workshops, more PLC discussions, Academic Writing for Journals workshop and others. By actively participating in these workshops, I believe that I will be more prepared in becoming a mentor or leader in the future. Not only that, I will be able to apply the leadership skills that I have learned in my classroom, where I plan to instill the leadership skills elements to my pupils while conducting my teaching and learning session.
Preparation for GC DG48 application
During the tenth year (2036), similar to what I have done in the fifth year (2031), I will start to systematically gather data that demonstrates my best practices in school, my contributions to the school, the programmes that I have been joining, especially the innovations and the effectiveness of the innovations that I have implemented for the pupils, my pupils’ achievements, my research writing and presentation, my roles and responsibilities within the school, organisation and English Panels, and others. I also plan to include my educational websites that I have created in my portfolio and the reviews that I get from my subscribers or visitors. I will ensure that all of my CPD activities and contributions are recorded in SPLKPM system. By the end of this year, I will ensure that I am prepared to be observed once again, so that I would not be rushing or face any difficulties early next year.
